My wife, who is very clever, says this is missing an About Me section, so here we are…
Video production at Uni – learning to edit on 2 and 3 machine suites and how to direct very very badly.
Then my first jobs in TV and film – various lowly positions where I didn’t really know what I wanted. Then in 1999 someone I met in a pub got me my first real job – selling ads in closed circulation B2B publications. But lets not dwell on that.
In 2002 Piers Bearne and Stefan Nilsson gave me the job that changed my life – Sponsorship Sales at Terrapinn.
After 8 years of selling events in Europe and Dubai, I was anxious for a change, so when the CMO wanted someone to lead the process of change from outbound mass email to inbound lead generation using content and social media, working at head office, I jumped at it.
That lasted 5 years until 2015, when I emerged into my final form, the one you see before you. 😉
Insane as it may sound to some people, I absolutely buzz off shooting events. When I first started doing it back in 2007ish, I sucked, really. Terrapinn had just started using an outfit the Marketing Director knew and they were SO GOOD, and all I wanted to do was be as good as them one day. Took me about 4 years but I got there 😉
But what about COVID? Were you completely wiped out?
Weren’t we all…All my work (an unprecedented year of forward bookings) cancelled. Then Piers Bearne and Rebecca King got in touch, as they needed someone to run the Media Entrepreneur Meetup an online community of independent event organisers and publishers, which suited me down to the ground. I had a great 3 years with them, met lots of lovely people, some of whom you probably know.
Anyway, myself, my wife two kids, 3 cats and 1 dog now live in Galloway which is as lovely as it sounds. We come down for work whenever needed.
